The Verona Community Center

Verona’s first community center opened on March 21, 2016. The 8,200 square foot space next to Goodwill and Dollar General has a “no-pay” internet café, activity rooms for children and youth, rooms for small groups, a large activity hall, and showers and a laundry center.

The idea for the center originated with a group from Verona UMC. Funding for the extensive remodeling of the former grocery store came primarily through VUMC and many of the over 80 volunteers who helped in the six-month project were part of our church. VUMC invested almost $200,000 in the initial construction and continues to support the center financially and through volunteers.

Today the Verona Community Center serves a wide part of the surrounding community from the homeless to families, churches, and professional groups. The center is now incorporated and independent 501-c3 non-profit status is pending.
